Dear Friends of the JSF:
In this month of thanksgiving, I offer sincere thanks to each person who has contributed to the success of the Jesse Stuart Foundation. Thanks to you, we have grown into a highly respected regional press and bookseller that is serving both individual readers and the educational system nationwide.
I present this letter with a mixture of pride and hope – pride in the remarkable accomplishments of our organization, and hope that you will continue to support our work. In the past 40 years, we have made great progress in sharing Jesse Stuart’s legacy through workshops, book discussions, dramas, public presentations, tours, and – most importantly – the republication of Stuart’s out-of-print classics, along with other books that focus on Kentucky and Appalachia.
Since Songs of a Mountain Plowman appeared in the summer of 1986, we have published more than 155 books that supplement our educational system at all levels. Each day at the JSF brings steady – and often exciting – progress. The renaissance of interest in our work continues, but we need your help in sharing JSF materials with schools, libraries, and bookstores.
If you itemize, you may be able to lower your income taxes through charitable giving. You should consult with your tax advisor, but here are a few suggestions:
- Cash – simply send your check or make a secure online donation by December 31, 2025.
- Stock – gifts of stock can be more tax-wise than cash gifts.
- Real Estate – another tax-wise gift.
- Estate Planning – remember the JSF in your will or other estate plans.
When you make your gift, please let us know how you wish to apply these funds:
- Book Reprints · 2026 Writers Workshop · Unrestricted Funds
To make your gift, please follow the “Donate” link on this page. If you prefer to support a specific project, please indicate your preference on the “Notes/comments” section during checkout. You will be recognized in a list of donors in the books unless you prefer not to be acknowledged, or you will be recognized as a Sponsor in the Writers Workshop program.
Without the assistance of our friends, the JSF will not be able to achieve our goals for next year. Thank you!
Sincerely,
James M. Gifford, Ph.D.
