Book discussion group

Meetings: Last Tuesday of the month, from March through November (no meetings Dec., Jan., Feb.)

Time: Coffee and conversation 2 p.m.; book discussion 2:30 p.m.

For nearly twenty years, Regional Readers have been reading and discussing books with Appalachian or Kentucky themes, or books written by Appalachian or Kentucky authors. From time to time, an author joins us for our discussion.

The book group is open to all and new members are always welcome. We encourage suggestions for the reading lists.

November 26, 2024 Book ~

The Midnight Train Home

The November selection is The Midnight Train Home by Erika Tamar. The novel traces three siblings, Deidre O’Rourke, age 11, and her brothers Sean, age 13, and James, age 3. They were living on the street in New York when their mother made the painful decision to surrender her three children to the Children’s Aid Society. Follow these three fearful yet hopeful children as the orphan train takes them to a new life. The Midnight Train Home will make you grateful to have a family.

When we meet on Tuesday, Nov. 26, we’ll continue our custom of having holiday refreshments — traditional side dishes, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts. Please let me know what you plan to bring. Refreshments at 1 p.m.; book discussion at 2:30 p.m.

This meeting is the last of the year. We will take a winter break and resume meeting in March 2025. The book group is open to all and new members are always welcome. We encourage suggestions for the 2025 reading list.
