The Jesse Stuart Foundation’s “Appalachian Murders & Mysteries: True Stories From West Virginia, Kentucky and Southern Ohio,” is now available in a softback edition.

The more-than-400-page book includes 23 murder stories from the early 19th century to today. Among the true stories are accounts of:

  • the Ashland Tragedy, where a lynch mob commandeered the steamboat Mountain Girl near Catlettsburg
  • the Rowan County feud that was bloodier than the notorious Hatfield-McCoy feud
  • unsolved murders of a Huntington socialite and a Prestonsburg cheerleader
  • the murder of the Ironton Police Chief during a jail break at the old Lawrence County jail

Together, these stories create a literary history of the innocent and the guilty while piecing together significant remnants of two hundred years of life in eastern Kentucky, southern Ohio, and West Virginia.
