Born in Greenup County, Kentucky, in 1906, Jesse Stuart was a prolific writer who published 2000 poems, 460 short stories, and more than 60 books.
Part of the mission of the JSF is to preserve the human and literary legacy of Stuart.

Allan W. Eckert (1931–2011), the Jesse Stuart Foundation’s best-selling author, was an historian, naturalist, novelist, poet, and playwright.
The author of more than 40 books, he was nominated eight times for the Pulitzer Prize in literature.
